Business conference and to use for community and school
presentations
A national Youth-led movement to stop
underage drinking. A community "briefing" will be held on March 5
or 6, 2008. Only 500 groups nation-wide will be selected to
receive "media kits" to do the community meetings. SODA has
submitted an application but we have not heard back yet ~
Hopefully we get in!
8. Tobacco Awareness Week/Great
American Smokeout:
On November 15, SODA members will be going
into the elementary classrooms (grades 1-6) and doing a "Blow
bubbles instead of cigarettes" tobacco awareness presentation
9. 5th & 6th grade youth center:
We are using an afterschool
activity curriculum called "Too Good For Drugs and Violence" and
parents/community members are facilitating the activities. The
kids seem to like it and more parents are stepping forward to help
facilitate!
10. Jr. High and High School youth
center:
Steve Friederich has taken over scheduling
volunteers for the youth center!
11. Roland Waterman, pastor in West
Union:
He is very interested in his church and his
youth ministry leaders to help with the youth center..both
facilitating activities and sponsoring youth center nights. He
will be bringing people to Jr. High and High School Youth center
nights so they can check things out! What a great collaboration!
12. Ministerial Alliance meeting in
October:
I presented about the VCC, SODA, the Youth
Center, Mentoring, All Stars and other programs we have going. It
was a very good meeting, some of the pastors said that they did
not have any previous knowledge about the coalition other
than hearing the name!
13. SODA Sub-group committees:
SODA youth are signing up for specific
activities this year instead of trying to do EVERY activity. We
are getting teams set up to get stuff done and the kids seem
excited about having a more active role!
14. January All-VCC meeting:
Meeting will focus on SODA. The leadership
team is excited and already recruiting. The meeting will be held
at the Clermont Opera House. Tentative date is Wednesday, January
30. SODA will be planning the food, agenda, etc. That night will
also be our SODA Basket Fund-Raiser!
Is in the works and will hopefully be
starting soon
16. DFC Community Assessment Tool:
Sheryl and I completed it on October 30. We
are waiting for a response back to see where they "rate" our
community
I need to have this completed by November 16,
so I may be asking for some information from you! I have it
started but there is a lot more to do!
