Steering Team Meeting Minutes

A. Financial Reports - Elgin State Bank, Period Ending 5/9/2007 ~ $7,033.58.
- We now have a Turkey River Classic checkbook
- Cathy Molumby is currently working on another grant
B. Reports from Subgroup –
1. Youth
- Risky Business Conference was awesome. Christy Cline, Sarah Jacobs, and Jenna Pollock attended.
- SODA leadership meetings are being held the 1st Wednesday of each month. They have set 3 main goals and are working hard!
- Summer Youth Center: We have had very limited response to chaperoning the 5th/6th grade YC.
- Tri-Ethnic Survey is a needs assessment survey that we will be conducting sometime this summer.
- SODA Scholarship winners were: Annie Olson and Sheena Lehmann
- SODA students want to get the Top 5 Reasons to be in SODA list printed on the back of SODA shirts. IT will cost $1.00 each. ST said it was ok to pay for the printing.
- SODA will be paying for t-shirts up front for the Volleyball tournament (SUMMER BASH) and then be getting reimbursed by teams. Shirts will cost $4.60 per shirt. Rusty Phillips is giving SODA a discount!
- Malinda asked if VCC could provide bottled water for the Summer Bash, it was suggested we check with Easton’s or H&H about donating.
- SODA Volleyball Tournament and Summer Bash is being headed up by the SODA kids. It will be Saturday August 11 from 2-8 at Beulahland Camp. There will be a Volleyball Tournament. The kids are really excited!
- SODA officers and leaders have been working really hard to recruit new members. 3 upper-classman guys have decided to become active again.
- 6 valley students attended 8th Grade Leadership Retreat.
- Pastry Puffins Fundraiser made $432.00. Kendra Knobloch was the top seller, she get the old air hockey table from the YC. A new air hockey table has been donated by Tim Butikofer.
2. Parent/Community
- 7 seniors participated in our Alcohol Free Graduation Party Sign initiative.
- Cassie is currently meeting with community members to get thoughts and ideas of what they would like to see the Parent/Community subgroup accomplish.
- Meeting on June 18th with School Improvement Advisory Committee to discuss Good Conduct Policy.
- We need to decide if we want to continue Adopt-a-Highway.
- Cathy Molumby brought to discussion the possibility of targeting a different population, such as the parent’s of preschoolers.
3. Mentoring
- Currently have 8 mentor/mentee matches.
- All VCC meeting focused on Mentoring.
C. 5th & 6th grade Youth Center –
- It was agreed to keep offering the Youth Center for 5th and 6th graders, but due to budget modify the structure.
- Ideas that were discussed were: Only doing training with the students a couple times through out the year, continue having the pizza and pop and letting the students just hang out , continue to get the parents involved and use their support, get the older SODA students involved, what other partners are out there….
D. All-VCC Meeting, June 6th, Focus on Mentoring
- Les Askelson spoke on the importance of Mentoring. He did a great job.
-Kathy Schwartzhoff is/was the emcee for the evening.
- Mentors were recognized
- ACE grant received by the SODA students
E. Email Problems - FIXED!
F. Guidelines for printing copies
- Purchase ink as needed.
G. Update on Mitts’ Fundraiser
- Very successful! It was great seeing the whole community come together and support the Mitts family.
H. Turkey River Classic Golf Tournament - August 25th
a. Postage for Mailing
- VCC will not be supplying the postage
b. Save the date card promotion
-Allen Knox passed out save the date cards, and handed them out at the All VCC meeting.
I. Newsletter – Featured Article
- Michelle will be putting a featured article in the newsletter. Individuals are to read the article, tear off the question section and turn it in to the VCC for a chance to win in a drawing at the next All VCC Meeting. This is a way to do some evaluation.
J. Summer Activities/Malinda
- SODA students have been asked to be in the Bed Races at Clermont Days.
K. Supporting Players
- Kim Becwar is willing to work with students to get a previous program called Supporting Players up and running again. Kim has a background in theatre and is willing to work with the program and the VCC.
L. VCC Fund Development update/report
1) Online store/fundraiser – igive.com is an easy way for the VCC to make a little bit of money. Check out the site and learn more about it! Items purchased from certain stores through igive.com will in turn give a percentage of money to the VCC.
