Steering Team Meeting Minutes
Tuesday August 1st, 2006

In attendance: Cassie Friederich, Malinda Riley, Alice Schaer, Linda Watson,
Dave Runyon, Tim Corkery, Stephanie Murphy, Marty Jacobs, Sharon Rich

Welcome to new staff:  Cassie Friederich!

A.  Financial Report:  Elgin State Bank Account ending balance~ $ 9,017.84

B.  Youth Subgroup Report
- Clermont Days activities was a lot of fun and a success.
- Fun in the Park Day in Wadena was a huge success. We had over $600 in cash
donations and lots of supplies were donated.  There were 118 people who
attended.  Elgin cookout scheduled for August 16th.
- Postville pool party was Monday, July 31st.  There were 18-20 in
attendance.
- Friday, August 4th there will be a Main Feature move and pizza night.  It
will be from 3:00-5:30 and we will be watching Pirates of the Carribbean 2.
All you can eat pizza and pop buffet.  The cost is $8.25 per person, but
will cost the participants only $3.00 per person.  SODA and Mentoring will
split the remaining costs.
- There will be a youth center clean-up day on Wednesday, August 9th at
6:00pm.  We will be painting, cleaning, and hopefully putting up curtains.
If you have any bright colored paint, bring it on down to the VCC office so
we can use it in the youth center.  Livingstone will be there to help us
again!
- We will have $500 from the grant to purchase prizes for the SODA
Kick-off!!
- Thursday, August 17 there will be a beverage server training at the Quarry
Lodge.
- Tuesday August, 1st was National Night Out in the Clermont City Park.  Pot
Luck starts at 5:30.
- Shane Anderson did our ad for July.he did a great job!!  Still waiting for
a response from our person for August.

C.  Feedback from Community Fun Day
-Wadena Community Fun Day was a huge success with 118 people in attendance.
Elgin's is scheduled for August 16th.

D.  Grant Writing Workshop
-  Tiffany and Gary Anderson will be attending the workshop August 15-16 in
Sioux City.

E.  5th/6th Grade Youth Center, 06-07 School Year
- decided to ask participants for $15 up front in order to cover the cost of
pizza and pop.
-    VCC will be covering the $400 fee for the classes

F.  Schwan's Fundraiser
- Schwan's Fundraiser has been extended through Wed. Aug. 9th.  Total sales
so far are $ 1,177.50.  Our profit will be $353.25.  We need everyone's help
getting the word out so this fundraiser can be as successful as possible.

G.  Hiring Discussion for ½ Position of Administrative Assistant
-Look over resumes again, call a couple other individuals who were possibly
interested in the position, and possibly do another round of interviews
before Linda leaves for vacation.

H.  Underage Drinking Conference
-Malinda, Sully, and Pastor Albers will be attending the conference.  It is
in Baltimore, Maryland August 23-26.

I.  VCC Fund Development Group Update/Report
-  We have had a few donations due to Al Knox's letter writing.

J.  Other Reports and Information
-Marty has been working in the VCC Savings Cards and they will hopefully be
ready to distribute soon.
-There is a concern that SODA Scholarship winners are not continuing to
live a drug-free lifestyle their first semester in college, which is a
requirement to receive the Scholarship.  May send out letters to the
recipients and a reminder the commitment they made with SODA.
-Community Readiness Survey Results are back.
