VCC Steering Team Monthly Meeting

A. Financial Report - no report

B. Reports from Sub Groups

1) Youth:

a. Risky Business Report: Joelle Davis and Kenzie Nading
  Joelle and Kenzie reported on the conference they attended.  The
internet information will be to present to 3rd and 4th grade students.
  A list of  abbreviated words  and those in code will be listed  for
parents.
b. Review upcoming SODA Activities and expenses
5th & 6th grade youth center:  ISU wants to do it, but only for 6
months.  One less month than before.  December was chosen to be cut
from the schedule.  Payment schedule will be looked into by Malinda.

Sharon reported a grant will be looked at which Cathy M has information
on which could be used to fund the
youth center activities.  Also a worker at Walmart will donate
volunteer hours with Walmart donating $250 to t the VCC.

Clermont Days Parade: July 22 , 10:30 p.m.  # 17 is the line up number.
   _ Patsy Spies will supply the Frooties .  3 bags will be ordered. 
The mentors and mentees will walk with them wearing their mentor shirt.
Games are to be provided in the park after the parade with Karen
Miller and the mentors supervising a few activities.  More volunteers
needed.

Fun in The Park in Wadena:  More volunteers needed with food and games 
July 26th.

Summer Activities will be Aug 2 for Soda and Mentoring - A Pool Party
in Postville from 8:30 - 10:30 p.m. at $40 and hour.  Mentors will
help with lunch
Aug. 4 , Friday 3:00 - 5:30 p.m. in Waukon ( Superman ll or Pirates of
the Caribbean ll) with a cost to the kids $3.

Youth Center: A collaboration with Livingstone  youth and Soda youth
the center was re-vamped.  A shopping trip on saturday brightened up
the center with some cool stuff!  Stop in and see it.  Two couches are
not needed so may be donated to a youth center in Postville.  More
cleaning and painting is needed and volunteer / chaperones are also
needed.

Grant - Writing conference   Aug. 15- 16 in Sioux City will be funded
by the coalition with two people willing to go.
The new employee a possibility , Malinda , Karen Miller and Tiffany
Anderson were suggested as others to attend.

My Favorite Book   :  We have been asked to help get the books out and
to maybe do one or two lessons....
More information needed and check with Kelly Luzum and Cathy Kathlor.

c.- Fall Kick off, prizes?  $500 prizes with 10 - 15 prizes and only 1
or 2 Big ones.  Officers will be elected at the Kick Off.

Beverage Server Training : August 17th at Quarry Lodge - Malinda will
be helping till a new staff member is hired.
Fall Leadership Retreat: EWALU Camp near Strawberry Point with a
budget for 10 kids to attend with 2 adults needed to volunteer.   time
will be set soon after the kick off event.

d. Schwan's Fundraiser: the packets are on the way!  Kick Off date will
be July 17th 6:00 p.m. at the youth center.  Everyone is needed to
make this a success. The promotion number is 1001923 to be used for
family and friends to purchase products with a great way to raise
funds.  the on line address for products: www.schwansfundraising.com .
  Click on Start Shopping and inter the campaign number.

Marketing: A little trouble making contacts to stay on schedule.... the
ads will still be in both papers and on KADR
SODA Scholarship Plaque is updated

VCC copy Machine has been donated to the Clermont Fire Department .
They need to pick it up.

National Nite Out:  Tuesday , Aug. 1 at 7:00 p.m. in the Clermont City
Park.  Focus will be on protecting ourselves from predators.  The VCC
will be supporting the Neighborhood Watch with this project.

4) Mentoring:  3 or 4 students are in need of mentors
The Fayette County Community Foundation granted $1396.00 to the VCC
Mentoring

C. Mentoring Grant and hiring process: Dave R will set up salary
schedules for the 3 part time positions

Half- time Mentoring Coordinator supervised by VCC, coordinating
the implementation of the Valley Mentoring Program

Part-time cOmmunity Prevention Specialist _ supervised by Helping
Services, community organizing around issues of substance abuse
prevention, planning adult BCC programming

Part-time clerical/grants management type position - supervised by
Helping Services, doing data entry, grant reporting, in-kind
contribution recording, support fro newsletter etc.

D. Disbursement of extra couches - see Youth Center


E. VCC credit card, thoughts about obtaining one - more information
needed

F. Grant Writing Workshop see above report

G. 5th/6th Grade Youth Center during school year (cost, $1600 aprox
for the year) see above report

H. VCC Fund Development Group update/report

Adopt A Highway - the signs are up between Clermont and West Union. 
The Soda / Livingstone will find a time to
walk the highway sometime ....

Sept. 5th is the Prevention Specialists meeting in Des Moines.
