Present:  Cathy Molumby, Shane Rothlisberger, Allen Knox, Linda Watson, David Runyon, Alice Schaer, Stephanie Murphy, and Marilyn Zweibahmer

Newsletter update:  Shane Rothlisberger

·        Shane reported that he thought everything went well with the newsletter.

·        Shane and Michelle did the work on their PC and some at the VCC office. When it came to sending the newsletter to the Elgin Echo, Michelle and Shane then found out the Elgin Echo couldn’t open publisher files.

·        They had to do a lot of cutting and pasting to make everything work out.

·        In the contract they were allowed between 16 – 20 hours.  Michelle and Shane logged 19.5 hours total.

·        Would be interested in doing newsletter again.

Financial Reports:  Stephanie Murphy

·      Balance as of 6/2/06 is $9289.60

·      Stephanie reported the Town Hall Meeting expenses are over budget by $257.93.  Helping Services will issue a check to cover these additional costs.

Sub Group Reports:

1.    Youth:

·      Copy Machine:  Helping Services in Decorah received a new copy machine.  The VCC office received the old Helping Services copy machine.  It was recommended to donate the VCC’s old copy machine to the Clermont Fire Department.

·      The Steering Team decided that SODA would participate in local parades.  They would not participate in Heritage Farm Park activities or help them fund raise.  SODA would participate in the community cookouts.  If not enough kids responded, SODA would then participate in one community cook out each summer.  Starting this summer with Wadena.

·      SODA Students attended Adventureland – it was a wet day, but still lots of fun.

·      Risky Business was an awesome conference this year!  The youth who participated will be coming soon to the Steering Team meeting to give a “report” of what they thought.

·      SODA Members were attending Noah’s Ark today.

·      Representatives from Livingstone have asked to use the Youth Center when not in use for anything else on certain dates.  The ST decided that was fine; however someone needs to fill out the proper forms.

·      SODA Scholarships were awarded to Kelsey Butikofer and Kate Howard.  Malinda asked if VCC money could be used to get the plaque engraved?  The ST would like more information on this as to what the price to engrave is.  They did decide money would come from somewhere to do the engraving.

·      A Meth Forum will be taking place on Wednesday, June 7th at the Clermont Opera House.  Potluck will begin at 6:00 and the program will be from 7:00-8:30.  The Clermont Police Department, Clermont Neighborhood Watch and the VCC sponsored this forum.

·      SODA Officers will be putting up posters in the community…they are tobacco related.  Ruth Schemmel from Palmer-Lutheran would also like to use the posters for display at the Fayette County Fair.

·      The theme for the June Marketing plan is the SODA Scholarships.  We are ahead of our budget with newspaper ads.

·      There will be NO 5th and 6th Grade Youth Center this summer.  No parents volunteered to help chaperone.

·      Jr. High and High School will be open contingent upon finding sponsors…if no sponsors can be found for a night, then it will not be open for that night!

2.    Community:  Marilyn Zweibahmer

·        The last All VCC Meeting was held on Tuesday, May 23rd at the Wadena Legion Hall.  A total of 33 people signed in to hear and discuss more about Underage Drinking.  Kim Havens presented and Cathy Molumby facilitated.  SODA officers did a tremendous job of emceeing!

·        Underage Drinking Action Steps taken from the All VCC Meeting were shared.  SEE ATTACHMENT.

·        13 seniors and families choose to host alcohol free graduation parties.  They signed up to post the “We Support an Alcohol Free Celebration” sign in their yard and receive the free keg of 1919 Root Beer.  Thanks to Allen and Janice Knox for covering the expenses of the Root Beer kegs and deposits.  It was a huge success.  We received numerous compliments and thank yous.

·        Tobacco Training Class did not take place in May because of lack of participation.  Shad Roys is hoping to offer a class the end of June.

·        The latest groupings of volunteer background checks to be updated have been sent out.

3.    Mentoring:  Marilyn Zweibahmer

·        On Saturday, June 3rd six mentors and mentees joined in a Mentoring Activity at Volga Lake for a free morning of fishing.  This activity was sponsored by TAKO.

·        Marilyn has been working with Linda and Kathy Schwartzhoff on the Fayette County Mentoring Grant.

Youth Center Concerns, security:

·        In May, the Youth Center had two Play Station controllers stolen.  It was decided to replace only one of them, since one the remaining controllers is not working.

·        The Youth Center will be locked at all times, even during hours that people are in the VCC office.

5th/6th Grade Youth Center during school year:

·        It was decided to table this until Malinda could be present.

Resignation of Marilyn:

·        Marilyn will be leaving the VCC Office the end of June.  She will continue to work in the Prevention field in the Decorah Office of Helping Services after she returns from maternity leave in September.

VCC Fund Development Group update/report:

·        Karen Miller has offered to do a grant database.  She will spend time over the summer to talk with people who worked with VCC grants.

·        A golf tournament will be set up in the future to benefit the VCC.  Businesses in the community will raise the money and donate ˝ of it to the VCC and other community organizations.

·        The VCC Fund Development has received two more donations.  One for $100 and another for $25.
