Steering Team Minutes

Present: Alice Schaer, Sharon Rich, Allen Knox, Linda Watson, and Marilyn Zweibahmer
Budget Report: Budget Reports were handed out to look over. Stephanie and Dave were not in attendance.
Sub Group Report:
· The next All VCC Meeting has been set for Tuesday, May 23rd. The focus will be Underage Drinking…Why? As we continue the discussion from the Town Hall Meeting. We are hoping to have a presentation by invited speakers and an open forum following the meal.
· Marilyn will check into a location and speak with the next food vendor on the list.
· Letters to all seniors will be sent out promoting them to have an alcohol free party. It was decided anyone interested in posting the sign would also receive one free keg of 1919 Root Beer from the VCC.
· Tobacco Training Class will be offered on Thursday, May 11, 2006 at the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department in West Union. Marilyn has been working with Shad Roys on this.
· Marilyn had a Mentor In-Service on Tuesday, April 25th. Three mentors were present. A lot of things were discussed and progress was made.
· The advertising plan for May deals with Mentoring. Laverne Swenson and Doug Schupbach were featured in the Elgin Echo and Kathy Schwartzhoff and her mentee Angela Williams can be heard on KOEL stations the week of May 8th.
· Need mentors and mentees to be featured in The Union and on KADR radio in the upcoming weeks.
Donation to the Valley Pre-school: Sharon Rich
· At the Town Hall Meeting the Pre-school room was used to offer daycare to seven children. The VCC made a $50.00 donation towards the Pre-school.
· The Pre-school understood from a previous conversation that they would be receiving a $200.00 donation.
· It was decided to issue another check for $150.00 to the Pre-school.
SODA Scholarship Committee: Sharon Rich
· Karen Miller, Pastor Arley, and Sharon Rich are on the Scholarship Committee.
· This year two scholarships will be awarded.
· Please let the committee know if you are interested in joining them.
Maintenance Contact:
· A maintenance contract will be signed between the VCC and Renee Matt, Web Design and Consulting.
VCC Fund Development: Allen Knox
· No report.
5th/6th Youth Center Funding:
· ISU Extension does programming relating to SA for 5th and 6th graders at the Youth Center.
· Funding will not be available for the program next year. The cost to have the ISU program is $2000.00.
· It needs to be decided if the VCC will find other ways to fund the program or to cut the program.
School/VCC/Internet Safety:
· The VCC has been approached by school members to collaborate with them to offer an Internet Safety course.
· The VCC would like more information about this and then will discuss it at a later time.
